When I was a little girl growing up in Louisiana, my aunt often remarked, “Why, that Marilyn, her head is always in the clouds!”
She had no idea how prophetic her words would turn out to be.
In meditation many years later, as I was searching for “purpose” in my life, I asked the universe, “What am I supposed to be doing?”
Miraculously in my mind, I saw the letters
P A I N T. I have always believed in the ways of the universe, so I bought paint and canvas that very day and began studying and practicing.
Years later, when I finally found my voice as an artist, I found my head once again in the clouds. Today, that’s where I find my inspiration—be it in the hot, fiery skies of New Mexico, the tranquil skies of Indiana, the pink skies of Paris or the rainy skies of Panama.
My memory and imagination of these and all the skies I’ve studied over the years is what I bring to the canvas. My paintings aren’t realistic, but they are representational of all that lives above, beyond and within us. My hope is that they will inspire you to marvel at the beauty of the universe and to acknowledge the “creator” that lives within all of us.
More than anything, my art has taught me that we are meant to be creators and are at our absolute best when we are creating. Which is why, each day, I endeavor to create beauty and to inspire joy. |
